Augusta University was formed when Georgia Regents University changed names in September 2015. The consolidation of Augusta State University and Georgia Health Sciences University, officially approved by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents in January 2013, created a new student-centered research university that builds on the strengths of both institutions.
Augusta University is one of four public comprehensive research universities in the state with nearly 10,000 students enrolled in its nine colleges, which include the Medical College of Georgia, the nation’s 13th-oldest medical school, Georgia’s only College of Dental Medicine, the Hull College of Business, the Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, and College of Allied Health Sciences,Education, Graduate Studies, Nursing and Science, and Mathematics. The clinical enterprise associated with the university includes the 478-bed Augusta University Medical Center, the 154-bed Children’s Hospital of Georgia and Augusta University Medical Associates.
